DEF CON 2019: "The Voice Told Me To Do It"

On 10 August 2019, Daniel Isler from Dreamlab Technologies Latin-America presented "The Voice Told Me To Do It" at DEF CON 27 in Las Vegas. Daniel shared his expertise about Social Engineering through a speech that focused on identity spoofing. He explained how cyber-criminals use human interactions to manipulate a person into disclosing information; and how it can quickly escalate not only to identity theft and impersonation, but actually using the identity of an institution to make an attack on a national level. He guided participants with real-world examples through the attack chain, verifying his theories with a proof of concept that demonstrated how in minutes he was able to obtain access to user numbers and passwords of an organisation's database.

Dreamlab is pleased and proud with its participation at DEF CON, a conference that has grown to become a premier cyber security event, bringing together the most knowledgable experts within the industry. "It was a wonderful experience from the beginning to the end. Experiencing first hand the "Social-Engineer Capture The Flag" event (The SECTF), the knowledge-transfer and socialising with other consultants, and especially being able to spend time with the social-engineer.org team, was a very rewarding experience. It reinforces the notion that our focus area and expertise is founded in the desire to help protect people; it confirms that there is indeed more people with good intentions that those looking to harm others. I hope that this platform continues to drive the interest and development of new skills. I am very thankful to Dreamlab for its pioneering vision and constant support - allowing me to continue developing my skills and reach through enriching experiences like this", Daniel Isler concluded his DEF CON 27 experiences.
