In a recent interview with Der Bund, Nicolas Mayencourt, CEO of Dreamlab Technologies, highlighted significant vulnerabilities in the IT systems of Swiss hospitals. According to Mayencourt, these gaps have persisted for years despite ongoing assessments:

«The situation has been concerning for several years. Annual evaluations show that progress remains insufficient because IT security is not prioritised enough in the healthcare sector.»

Mayencourt emphasised that the increasing integration of medical and IT systems in hospitals has created numerous interfaces vulnerable to exploitation.

«Unlike the banking sector, where security has been a long-standing tradition due to historical threats, hospitals are relatively new to these challenges,» he explained.

Dreamlab Technologies conducted an assessment of Swiss hospitals’ IT systems back in 2020, uncovering critical issues that have largely remained unresolved. These findings underscore an urgent need for Swiss healthcare institutions to take decisive action in prioritising cybersecurity—not just to protect sensitive patient data, but also to ensure the operational resilience of critical medical services.

The interview serves as a stark reminder that the cybersecurity landscape in healthcare requires immediate attention to uphold public trust and safeguard vital systems.
