The study identified a staggering 1.2 million vulnerabilities within the Austrian cyberspace, with a concerning 570,000 categorised as severe. Nicolas Mayencourt, CEO and Founder of Dreamlab Technologies, emphasised the critical need for immediate action: “Currently, only 40% of small and medium-sized enterprises in Austria have a cybersecurity plan in place. Just one-third of these businesses provide cybersecurity training to their employees, and one-fifth have conducted vulnerability assessments on their systems.” Larger corporations and governmental organisations also face vulnerabilities, but addressing these issues will require more intricate solutions due to their complexity.
Equally alarming is the fact that a significant portion of Austrian domains and mail servers are hosted abroad, potentially exposing them to international cyber threats. In a time when cybercrime poses a greater collective threat than all-natural disasters combined, these findings underscore the urgent need for Austria to bolster its cybersecurity defences.
